Volvo Car Open Main Draw Player Field Complete
The main player draw for the Volvo Car Open is officially complete for the 42nd tournament, March 29 – April 6. The world-class player field forming on Daniel Island is headed up by three of the top ten women tennis players in the world, Serena Williams, Jelena Jankovic and Sara Errani.
“The competition for players has increased dramatically over the last few years, and we are extremely happy with not only the quality of our player field, but the depth of our player field,” said Bob Moran, General Manager and Tournament Director. “From our two time defending champion Serena Williams, to next generation players like Sloane Stephen and Eugenie Bouchard, this field has something for every fan. ”
The Volvo Car Open’s 56-player draw is made up of 43 direct entries into the tournament, five wild cards and eight qualifiers.
“We will be watching tennis results in the upcoming weeks very closely, as we determine how to utilize our five wild cards throughout the next month,” said Moran.
Highlights from the Main Draw include:
- International player field representing 22 countries
- Twenty-four players from the top 50 in the world
- Four Grand Slam Champions: Serena Williams, Venus Williams, Samantha Stosur and Svetlana Kuznetsova
- Five past Volvo Car Open Champions: Serena Williams (2008, 2012, 2013), Samantha Stosur (2010), Sabine Lisicki (2009), Jelena Jankovic (2007), Venus Williams (2004)
